The
72-Hour "Ahi" Kit,” or what is commonly known in Special
Operations as a “Bug-Out Bag” is a small backpack or bag
that I have carried in many combat operations over the last 22+ years.
I kept hand-grenades, binoculars, first aid gear, a poncho, a flashlight,
an infrared beacon, a poncho liner, a 9mm pistol, a water purification
system, local area maps, a global positioning system, enemy magazines
(ammunition), a hand-held thermal pocket scope, translation gear, etc.
in my bag and relied on it for my very life if need be. Luckily, I never
needed it – but if I did, I rested easier knowing it was there
for me.
I
always thought to myself that when wars ended for me and I went home
to start a more peaceful life, I would build some of these to support
a natural or man-made disaster for my loved ones. It started as a labor
of love and news of these kits spread and soon all of my neighbors and
friends were asking for me to build them one also.
So I decided to
offer my “72-Hour "Ahi" Kit” in backpack form,
to folks who want to prepare ahead of time for a disaster. I offer this
at a small price to pay now with a huge dividend once a tragedy strikes
and while you won’t get hand-grenades in your kit, I will still
customize it to each and every person. The main benefit rests in my
in-home consultation and demonstration of various portions of the kit.
Some of the items within can be a desalinization water system, a filter
you can throw in raw sewage if need be to drink from, survival foods,
a significant first-aid / trauma kit, a multi-fuel stove to boil water,
a knife, a radio, walkie-talkies, a multi-tool, etc.
